Artist's Statement by Peter Salisbury

This piece was created electronically from photographs I took of Anne-Lynn Kettles during her enactment of Samuel Beckett's play, Rockaby. The play was performed at the September 1995 Ampersand Dance/Theatre concert in Dallas, and was directed by Shannon Slaton. At the time that Rockaby was written, Beckett was in a minimalist period. In the play, there is only a woman rocking in her chair. The audience is allowed to sense her senile repetitions and circular thought patterns, which are characteristic of Beckett's unique style of writing. I have tried, in some way, to create this same sensation within my piece.
